I'm going to be a first timer at the track day. I may decide to keep doing it, but I'm not sure, so I don't want to spend a ton on a helmet. I'm seeing open and closed faced styles. What do folks prefer for the kind of thing we'll doing on a track day? Thanks in advance for your advice.

For first timers I would recommend open face because they are less expensive and your field of vision is better.

I recommend a full-face helmet. There are quite a few affordable options out there, which don't cost much more than their open-face counterparts. Here's a review of my $180 Conquer Equipment lid, which is a lot of helmet for the money.
