Taking Track Knowledge to the Streets

“The best and worst thing about track driving is how little it resembles what we normally do in cars,” starts author David Zenlea in a recent RoadandTrack.com article titled How to Be The Best Driver Possible On Public Roads.  But there are a few items from the track that can be applied in a positive way to everyday driving on everyday roads.

In the article, Zenlea speaks with IndyCar driver Graham Rahal and Skip Barber instructor Divina Galica to get their thoughts on what racetrack skills can be deployed on the way to work or the grocery store on any given day.  Techniques developed at the track -- such as smoothness, proper vision, and shifting and braking talents -- have a place on public roads.  And what about going fast?

“To be honest with you, I wouldn’t,” cautioned Galica.  “Drive as if there’s a flock of sheep around every corner.  Save your heroics for a track day.”

But to learn what track tricks are useful on streets and avenues, take a quick gander at the How to Be The Best Driver Possible On Public Roads article.  There are a few fun nuggets in there for you to ponder.
