SCCA Week Ahead: Sept. 18-Sept. 24

Woo-hoo!!  Another great week of racing is on the horizon for the Sports Car Club of America!  With the fantastic Tire Rack Solo Nationals, presented by Garmin VIRB, barely in the rearview, we can now look forward to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, presented by Garmin VIRB, September 19-25 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

If you’ve never been to the Runoffs, you’re missing out.  Seriously, stop what you’re doing right now and make plans to get to Mid-Ohio.  The track is packed with activity all week during qualifying, and then there are three incredible days of racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, -- September 23-25 -- where national champions are crowned.  Legitimately, the Runoffs can be considered the best three days of racing in a year.  Twenty-eight races in three days, where else does that happen!?

But if you can’t get to Mid-Ohio, we’ve got your back.  All 28 races will be broadcast live online at SCCA.com.  A fantastic broadcast team has been assembled to cover all the action on the track and in the pits.  Coverage each morning starts in the 8 o’clock hour Eastern Time and goes right through until late afternoon.  Check out the race schedule here.

The Runoffs are not the only racing going on in the SCCA next week.  SCCA Pro Racing’s Trans Am Series is in action September 23-24 at VIRginia International Raceway.  If you can’t make it to Mid-Ohio for the Runoffs, VIRginia International Raceway is a pretty solid alternative.

And if you want to do more than just spectate, then SCCA Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack is for you!  There is one event scheduled next week on Tuesday, September 20, at NOLA Motorsports Park near New Orleans, Louisiana.  If you haven’t been to a Track Night, here’s the scoop.  It’s a non-competitive, entertaining, easy and inexpensive way for those that love cars or motorsports to get out on a racecourse. All that is required is that participants be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and have access to a helmet and street car in good working condition. The cost is never greater than $150 per event, and no previous on-track experience or Sports Car Club of America membership is required. Drivers participate in the Advanced, Intermediate or KONI Novice Experience group so on-track activities remain fun for all. Everyone gets three 20-minute sessions on course, as well as feedback from SCCA driver coaches on site. Admission is free for people who just want to stop by and watch the fun, and leisurely circuit parade laps are provided for all Track Night guests.

As always, SCCA Regions have a lot planned throughout the country.  Be sure to check out the full slate of activities at the SCCA website calendar.  And don’t forget to keep an eye out for upcoming Tire Rack Street Survival dates near you.

Enjoy!
