SCCA Week Ahead: Sept. 4-Sept. 10

What does the Sports Car Club of America have up its sleeve next week?  Well, unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’re probably aware that Sept. 5-9 is the annual Tire Rack Solo Nationals presented by Garmin VIRB.  A crowd of around 1,300 competitors is expected.  If you can make it out to Lincoln Airport in Lincoln, Nebraska, come check out the world’s largest motorsports event and take in the festivities.  If you can’t make it to Lincoln, keep abreast of what’s happening at SCCA.com.

Another hotbed of action next week takes place Sept. 9-11 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  There the Mazda Global MX-5 Cup series will be on display as part of the Mazda Road to Indy.  Great racing in a great place, you just can’t beat that.

Also going on next week is an SCCA Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack on Friday, September 9, at Palmer Motorsports Park in Ware, Massachusetts.  SCCA Track Night is a non-competitive, entertaining, easy and inexpensive way for those that love cars or motorsports to get out on a racecourse in their own vehicle. All that is required is that participants be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and have access to a helmet and street car in good working condition. The cost is never greater than $150 per event, and no previous on-track experience or Sports Car Club of America membership is required.

Track Night in America drivers participate in the Advanced, Intermediate or KONI Novice Experience group so on-track activities remain fun for all. Everyone gets three 20-minute sessions on course, as well as feedback from SCCA driver coaches on site. Admission is free for people who just want to stop by and watch the fun, and leisurely circuit parade laps are provided for all Track Night guests.

And of course, SCCA Regions across the country are holding local Solo events, hill climbs, road rallies and more for those looking to have fun with their car.  Be sure to check out the full slate of activities at the SCCA website calendar.  And don’t forget to keep an eye out for upcoming Tire Rack Street Survival dates near you.

Enjoy!
