Track Night 2017: Southwestern Michigan - May 19
Built in 1995, the track opened for its first full season of racing sports cars and motorcycles in 1996. The track is the recipient of the Safe Track Award' from Victory Lane Magazine, and was designed by architect Alan Wilson for use as a club racing course with clear runoffs and wide, smooth paving to avoid costly vehicle damage, especially for newer drivers.
The track is a great course for spectators, who can watch the races from numerous areas. The track itself is a 1.88 mi (3.03 km) road course for racing sports cars and motorcycles, and is specifically designed for driver safety, especially for amateur drivers. The circuit update during the 2009 - 2010 off season included an addition to Turn 10 (now 10A) of 1,770 feet of pavement, bringing the course to 2.21 miles. Safety runoff areas were configured to allow counter-race operation.
Be sure to check out the Regional Races going on while you're there!
The Double Regional race weekend at GingerMan Raceway is put on by a joint-effort between Detroit, Western Ohio and South Bend Regions. South Bend Region has been racing at GingerMan Raceway since it opened twenty one years ago. You will find that the volunteer workers are very friendly and willing to share their experiences with anybody that asks. The double regional weekend is a relaxed race weekend where drivers can enjoy competition on the track and camaraderie off the track. You’ll find that many of the racers hang out together long after the on-track action is over. Feel free to walk around the paddock, look a the race cars and ask questions of the drivers.
