Break from the Routine with Track Night in America

Busy, busy, busy. Even during a pandemic, there always seems to be a limited amount of "free" time. Always another videoconference to join, a report to study, a deadline to meet. And weekends provide no respite due to family Zooms, tasks around the house, and maybe stir-crazy kids to entertain. Thankfully, SCCA's Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack is around to provide a break from the tireless regimen during weekdays. Plus, it's an activity welcoming people of all ages, from all walks of life, with a wide array of motorsport passions.

Chris Tonn, an AutomotiveMap.com contributor, visited a Track Night in America event at Nelson Ledges Road Course in Northeast Ohio for just this purpose, and penned an article on the experience titled, "Have car, will Track Night in America: This weekday race alternative makes track time a go."

Tonn's Take on Track Night

Chris took a 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost to his event, noting in the article that "Track Night in America is meant for streetcars, not race cars, as the SCCA's goal is to let people simply have fun with the cars they already have. Many other track day programs tend to encourage drivers to work their way up a 'ladder' of sorts from novice track events to time trials all the way to wheel-to-wheel racing. While that's certainly an option, the SCCA just wants people to enjoy performance driving in a safe environment without the pressure to compete."

What did Chris think of his loaner Mustang? You'll have to read the article to learn more about that. But as far as Track Night in America goes, he did state, "I wish something like this had been around twenty-plus years ago as I began to make a little bit of money.

"SCCA has a winning program on their hands," Chris concluded. "Over five years, over 40,000 drivers have registered for Track Night events. It's a great way to keep socially distant at speed."
