Changes to Track Night Convertible Policy

It was recently brought to our attention that the SCCA Track Night in America convertible policy is in need of clarification and updating. Effective immediately, the new policy will be:

It is highly recommended that all convertible vehicles be equipped with an aftermarket roll bar that meets or exceeds the standards set in the SCCA Time Trials rules. However, convertible vehicles may participate in Track Night events provided the vehicle meets at least ONE of the following criteria and is not subject to any of the below exceptions:

- The convertible vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket roll bar that meets or exceeds standards set in the SCCA Time Trials rules.

- The convertible vehicle is equipped with documented, factory-installed rollover protection (examples of manufacturer documented rollover protection would include hydroformed and reinforced a-pillars or windshield frames, and factory-installed roll bars and/or “pop-up” bars that are designated as rollover protection).

- The convertible vehicle is a 2006-year model or newer.

Exceptions: In addition, convertible vehicles that were manufactured since 2006 that fall into any of the below categories must meet the criteria stated above for factory or aftermarket rollover protection:

- Convertible vehicles equipped with factory V8 or forced induction engines.

- Convertible vehicles modified meaningfully beyond the factory performance potential (examples: engine swaps, aftermarket forced induction).

We at Track Night would like to remind that the participant is responsible for the inspection and eligibility of his/her vehicle. We are happy to answer questions and make suggestions. However, we urge anyone who is currently or planning to participate in a Track Night event in a convertible vehicle without an aftermarket roll bar research and confirm the manufacturer's position on the safety features put in place from the factory.

Please note that the policy change also impacts convertible vehicles that were built prior to 2006 that were previously participating at Track Night events with a hardtop, but without a roll bar. Convertible vehicles in this configuration will no longer be eligible for use at Track Night in America events. Anyone registered in such a configuration is eligible for a full refund.  We sincerely apologize for any frustration this may cause.

Finally, we would like to underline the appropriateness of roll bars in vehicles driven on track. While there are other criteria that will allow participation, an aftermarket, approved roll bar is the best and preferred configuration.

For more information on roll bars, their specifications and applications, we recommend contacting Track Night Technical Partner Autopower Industries or visit their website at http://www.autopowerindustries.com/ .

PLEASE NOTE:  Several of the Track Night Tracks have seperate rollbar policies that Track Night must enforce.  Please see your track's page and the track specific rules for details.

As far as I know, on the Honda S2000 all years have both factory reinforced A Pillars, plus factory roll hoops. Can anyone confirm that they will or will not require aftermarket bars?

From another thread on the internet..."The factory rollover protection provided by the existing hoops on a Honda S2000 is deemed acceptable for participation in SCCA sanctioned Level 1 PDX or Level 2 Club Trials."  but we all know how reliable forum postings are....

for not lawyers... I can take my 2006+ convertible to a track night even without an aftermarket bar as long as I don't have a V8 or forced induction, correct?
