Hey, did you have fun at SCCA Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack? Well, we’ve got something else for you and your street car to give a try: SCCA Targa!!!

The word Targa conjures up visions of skilled drivers traversing dusty back roads that snake through sleepy villages and forests thick with trees. These events cover several hundred miles and test both driver and machine. And while these happenings are certainly a challenge, they are also invigorating fun filled with camaraderie for participants.

The “fun” aspect of such adventures is what the Sports Car Club of America is looking to reproduce through its new SCCA Targa program. Heyward Wagner, SCCA Director of Experiential Programs, said the first such event is now scheduled for August 11-14, 2016 and will take participants to SCCA events organized by the Central Carolina Region, Atlanta Region and Kentucky Region.

“This new activity is designed to showcase the SCCA lifestyle and highlight all the fun people can have with the Club,” Wagner said. “Specifics like classing and rules will be announced soon, but the experience will have a blend of autocross, road rally and on-track elements. The challenge is to do all these things, including drive from one venue to the next, in the same car.”

Lisa Noble, SCCA President and CEO, said SCCA Targa is a clear indicator of how the Experiential Programs Department is thinking outside the box when it comes to exploring ways for people to have fun with cars.

“SCCA Targa, Tire Rack SCCA Starting Line School, SCCA Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack, SCCA RoadRally and SCCA Solo are all examples of ways our members, current and new, can have fun in cars they have already,” Noble said. “The Sports Car Club of America has a long and glowing history in motor racing, and as an organization we’ve been actively looking at ways to make it easier for more people to come play with us. I think we’ve made major strides along this path in the last several years and I strongly believe our efforts strengthen the Club and motorsports as a whole.”
